The earliest optical instruments made by Zeiss date back to 1846, when Carl Zeiss established
an optics and fine machinery workshop in Jena, in the German region of Thüringen. The
company never stopped growing, so that the name of the founder became a worldwide leading
brand in the optics and optoelectronics industry. To us, entering a business relationship with
Zeiss Italia meant dealing with a large company with a markedly German character; year after
year, we have been able to win their trust as they put us to the test, requesting us to follow—
and interpret—the guidelines set by the mother company, the challenge being to comply with
the rules while turning them into an opportunity for an exercise in creativity.
